Author B.L. Brown– Tell Halo-Orangees readers a little about you. Where are you from? What’s your passion?
Joshua Jamerson– I’m a contemporary soul artist, originally from Buffalo, NY, I currently reside in Nashville, TN. I’m what some would call a “church boy”; someone who has been in church ALL OF THEIR LIFE. My passion is music of course, I strive to see my music inspire, encourage and uplift listeners. I want the lyrics of my music to be “a way of escape” for people, especially those seeking hope and direction.
Author B.L. Brown- When did you first know you wanted to be a gospel singer and music producer?
Joshua Jamerson- As a child I was exposed to various types of music; gospel, contemporary Christian, R&B, soul, etc. I’ve enjoyed it all. As I grew in my artistry, I realized I wanted to be more than just a gospel singer; I wanted to be an artist, one who incorporated all styles of music, sharing the “Good News”. Like Jesus, who made himself available not only to the believer, but also to those who are lost, I want my music to reflect that same philosophy. Being a music producer wasn’t the initial goal, but after working on my first project and thereafter, I realized it was something that came natural for me and I’ve truly enjoyed it.
Author B.L. Brown- Your debut album entitled, “The Difference” was recognized as Album of the Year by the New York State Independent Music Association. How did it feel to be presented with the album of the year award?
Joshua Jamerson- I must admit, I was shocked, stunned and confused all at the same time… I mean, I didn’t expect to win. So after my name was called, I asked my sister, “Did they just call my name, she said, boy yes, go get your award”. It was an AMAZING FEELING to be honored for something I was so passionate about and to know others believed in it.
Author B.L. Brown- You run a music label, “Jamerson Music” how many artist do you currently have signed to your label?
Joshua Jamerson- Though starting a record label is a goal of mine; it’s not something I’m pursuing at the moment. Currently, “Jamerson Music” represents my brand as an artist and producer.
Author B.L. Brown- You have a new single out titled “Save Me (Again)”. What is the inspiration behind the song?
Joshua Jamerson- I like to write songs based on my life’s journey, so “Save Me” came from one of those personal experiences. It was a moment in my life where I felt lost, broken and empty. I was in a place of honest humility calling out for help. It was a very vulnerable place and often scary because there I realized I wasn’t in control of the situation and that I needed someone or something greater to help me. I figured others could relate to the lyrics, emotion and reality of the song.
Author B.L. Brown- In three words define your music.
Joshua Jamerson- Liberating, Different and Honest.
Author B.L. Brown- The world is full of temptations. How do you stay grounded in the word of God?
Joshua Jamerson- Staying active in my local church and being held accountable by my family and friends.
Author B.L. Brown- What is the greatest obstacle challenge you’ve overcome since you started your music career?
Joshua Jamerson- Relocating to another state. By doing so, I didn’t know anyone or have much money. It was a difficult and challenging time, but I held on to my faith and the determination of not giving up. I literally saw my life change for the better. This experience taught me, there is nothing I can’t achieve, as long as I keep God first, stay focused and never give up.
Author B.L. Brown- Bullying has become a harmful epidemic worldwide. What advice can you offer school- age children who are the subject of bullying? What words of wisdom can you give to the predator’s bullies?
Joshua Jamerson- Bullying is a very sensitive subject; it saddens me every time I hear of a kid committing suicide because of bullying. If you are being bullied, I urge you to please speak with an adult about it. You are not alone and you do not have to face bullies by yourself. There is someone that will listen to you. PLEASE TALK WITH SOMEONE. If you are the bully, you should seek other alternatives to channel your emotions. You may consider mocking someone funny, though it’s not funny to your victim. Taking small jabs here and there adds up to a lot of pain and suffering. While it may seem innocent to you, the cumulative effect of these jabs can be devastating to your victim. Therefore, before throwing jabs or cracking jokes, be mindful of the effects it may have on your peers. You never know what anyone is going through at home and your jokes can push them over the edge. “Treat others the way you want to be treated”. That’s the Golden Rule and it should be followed in every aspect of your life. Stop Bullying!
Author B.L. Brown- Who is your favorite singer and why?
Joshua Jamerson- Whitney Houston, she was the first person whose voice captivated and inspired me to dream about performing and changing lives with my voice, a great melody and amazing lyrical content. She’s the GREATEST EVER!
Author B.L. Brown- Where do you see yourself in three years?
Joshua Jamerson- In three years, I see myself owning a record label with a roster of diverse artist who sells platinum records. Having a few Grammy awards under my belt for music that I wrote, sung or produced for myself and other artist. I also see myself being the greatest husband and becoming a father.
Author B.L. Brown- What’s your favorite motto or quote?
Joshua Jamerson- I don’t really have a favorite motto or quote, but there is a scripture I live by and hold on to during life’s ups and downs. Psalm 91, which speaks on the Safety of Abiding in the Presence of God.
Author B.L. Brown- Is there anything else you’d like to share?
Joshua Jamerson- I would like to thank you for the opportunity to share with your viewers a little about who Joshua Jamerson is and what my music is about. Please keep me in your prayers and continue to support my vision on sharing my music with the world and eventually introducing them to Someone Bigger and Greater than you and I. Thank you!!
